Credit Hours Required
• Minimum of 60 graduate credit hours for students entering with a related master’s degree (Data Science, Computer Science, or closely related fields)
• Minimum of 75 graduate credit hours beyond the bachelor’s degree
The Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Data Science prepares independent researchers and visionary leaders for data-driven disciplines in academia, industry, and government. The program emphasizes advanced coursework, rigorous scholarship, industry attachment or internship and original research, culminating in a dissertation that contributes significant new knowledge to the field.

The PhD program in Data Science prepares graduates to advance the theory and practice of data science through innovative research, scalable AI and analytics solutions, and ethical leadership. Graduates will be equipped to formulate and solve complex, real-world problems, contribute original scholarly work, and lead data-driven initiatives across academia, industry, and government.

Three (3) letters of recommendation: Request within the admission application system the letters of recommendations from former professors, employers, or others who can give evidence of the applicant's aptitude for, as well as interest in, a research career in Data Science are required.
9, Dissertation-related courses
A minimum of 12 credit hours of dissertation (DTSC 6950) is required
